Valerini, Adriano: Le bellezze di Verona. Ragionamento di Adriano Valerini dottore e comico veronese.

 

Verona, Franco Riva, 1958. 8vo. 48 pp. + 2 folding plates (”Civitatis Veronae Prospectus” and View from the Ponte Novo). Printed on very fine Tino di Pescia paper with deckle edge preserved. First initial ”V” and printer’s mark on final leaf printed in red.

 

No 86 of only 100 copies printed, uncut save for top edge gilt in publisher’s half vellum, title in gilt along spine. A beautiful copy.

 

Valerini’s ”Le Belleze” (sic, The beauties of Verona) was originally published in 1586.

 

Adriano Valerini, active in the second half of the 16th century, was an Italian actor of Commedia dell'arte, born in Verona and active in Northern Italy. He published a tragic play (l'Afrodite), nearly one hundred madrigals, a funeral oration for the fellow comic and possible mistress Vincenza Armani, and the present work about Verona.
